WHAT'S NEW AT THE PIRTLE WINERY: MAY 2006

Our new production building is finished. The move of bulk wine and production equipment to the new facility starts soon.

The wine bottles are getting new clothes today also. All new labels have arrived and are being applied. We will be updating the website with the new labels soon.

By popular demand we have developed a new Blueberry wine. It is available now only at the winery. Our first Blueberry Wine exceeded our expectations. Early reviews from the tasting room at the winery are extremely positive.

Right now, the spring growth is lush and beautiful. The vines were perfectly pruned in March and they are responding. Looks like a heavy crop so far. The wine garden is its usual self, pleasant and relaxing.

Come check out the new wine, the new labels, enjoy the wine and your day at the winery!

:: UPCOMING EVENTS ::

Our first wine garden event of the year is May 20, Saturday, Armed Forces Day. Ashleigh Wehmeyer will perform from 6-10 P M. She has been singing and writing for the last six years and is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association. There is a $5.00 charge to cover light appetizers. Plan now to attend. And remember that our tasting room is open everyday.

:: PATRICIA'S RECIPE OF THE MONTH ::

Cherries in Pirtle Mellow Red

1 lb. dark sweet cherries, pitted
1 cup Pirtle Mellow Red Wine
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 tsp. cornstarch
1/4 cup red currant jelly

Combine cherries, wine, sugar and cinnamon in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil.

In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and red currant jelly. Stir in hot cherry mixture.
Simmer 1 minute, stirring constantly. Cover, cool 5 minutes.

Serve warm or cold with your favorite vanilla ice cream. It makes for an impressive dessert and is very simple. I like it warm and sipping Mellow Red makes it an even more impressive dessert.
