WHAT'S NEW AT THE PIRTLE WINERY: JANUARY 2005

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

We are back from visiting our extended families and hope your holiday celebrations were as joyous ours.

Burr!!! It's cold out there. Like we say every year, to cheer up those of you in the cold weather areas, the days are getting longer; the sun is rising higher and higher in the sky every day. Spring will be here before we know it.

We're in Kansas! We've recently signed up with World Wide Wines a distributor in the state of Kansas who is doing a wonderful job of getting the wines to a shop near you. We will soon be updating the website with a listing of Kansas locations that will be carrying our wines. Stay tuned!

Valentines Day is coming up and what better way to celebrate than with a bottle of Pirtle Mead. As you may know, the word honey moon is derived from the tradition of drinking hone wine from "moon to moon" (one month) after a wedding. To commemorate the occasion, Pirtle Winery is taking 20% off the retail price of all our Mead varieties from now through February 14th.

:: PATRICIA'S RECIPE OF THE MONTH::

Chocolate Covered Strawberries with Sparkling Mead

Buy fresh strawberries that have their stems intact. Wash, dry and refrigerate the strawberries. (Cold strawberries will cause the chocolate to harden and there will be less dripping.)

INGREDIENTS:
16 ounces milk chocolate chips
2 tablespoons shortening
1 pound fresh strawberries with leaves

DIRECTIONS:
1. Insert toothpicks into the tops of the strawberries.
2. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate and shortening, stirring occasionally until smooth. Holding them by the toothpicks, dip the strawberries into the chocolate mixture.
3. Turn the strawberries upside down and insert the toothpick into styrofoam for the chocolate to cool.
4. Serve your Valentine!

Yours in wine,

Elbert & Patricia Pirtle
